ABOUT UCC

INSTITUTIONAL VISION, MISSION AND GOALS

Union Christian College adheres to the philosophy that education is far more than just simply students with professional knowledge. It has to devote itself to deliver whole person education that fosters spiritual, intellectual, humane, social and physical development of learners, nurturing them to become confident, caring and God-fearing leaders who possess integrity, perseverance and a sense of responsibility in applying their knowledge in the service of others.

Holistic education is grounded in the biblical conviction that the human being is not divided into many fragmented parts such as the physical, spiritual, emotional, and relational but rather that the human is a single entity created by God in his own likeness. Therefore, it provides the student with the opportunity to envision life, experience life, and share life in an integrated way. It understands and teaches that each aspect of the human is integral to every other aspect if the human is truly to be whole as a human being.

As a church institution of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, Union Christian College highlights its mission that apart from enhancing competencies to develop students into individual who can gauge their success through returns in their professions, it is more paramount to measure them by the extent to which they have become instruments of God in serving others.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The basic task of education is to enable and empower individuals into becoming well-adjusted, productive members of society. As a Christian church oriented institution, Union Christian College approaches the basic task from the following perspectives.

Faith is a formative ingredient in any person’s understanding of the self and relationship with other people. Understanding alone is inadequate; there is an integral relationship between one’s self and deeds. The Christian faith professes that God creates, sustains and redeems his creation. Christ was given as the example of how people should live within society; the faith guides their behavior in living with other human beings.

The front line activity in the educative process is the interaction between the teacher and the student. Administration, staff, building and equipment are only provisions for the interaction. The intention of teaching is understood to be facilitating the learning process for an individual. If there is no learning, then there was no teaching.

What takes place is merely an event of directing information at a target (students) with little regard for the educative interactions that define the teaching-learning process. In its objective to be sustaining and redeeming agent in society, Union Christian College seeks to accomplish the basic task of education with relevance, imagination, empathy and integrity according to the model of Jesus.
