In celebration of Environment Month, the Union Christian College โ€“ School of Education, Arts, and Sciences (SEAS) once again translated its commitment to environmental stewardship into meaningful action through a native tree-planting initiative under its flagship eco-sustainability program, EARTH I AM. The activity became a living testament to the school's enduring belief that sustainability begins with deliberate choices and collective responsibility. SEAS faculty members gathered to plant carefully selected native and food-bearing trees within the SEAS grounds, reinforcing the department's vision of nurturing an academic community that values ecological integrity, food security, and environmental resilience. At the heart of the initiative was the planting of moringa (malunggay), kamias (bilimbi), and katuray (Sesbania grandiflora)โ€”three remarkable species chosen not only for their adaptability to the local environment but also for their immense nutritional, ecological, and social value. These native and food-bearing trees embody the principles of EARTH I AM. This institutional program encourages students, faculty, and personnel to embrace sustainability not merely as an environmental campaign but as a daily way of life. The project reflects the department's belief that sustainability is most meaningful when everyone experiences its benefits. Through transforming available spaces into productive green areas, SEAS demonstrates that educational institutions can serve as living laboratories where environmental education extends beyond textbooks and becomes an everyday practice. Through EARTH I AM, the School of Education, Arts, and Sciences continues to prove that genuine environmental leadership is measured not only by words spoken during Environment Month but by lasting actions that inspire generations to care for creation. Every seedling planted represents more than a promise of shade or harvest it stands as a living symbol of faith, responsibility, stewardship, and the unwavering commitment of the SEAS community to nurture both people and the planet, one tree at a time. #SDG3GoodHealthAndWellBeing #SDG11SustainableCitiesAndCommunities #SDG13ClimateAction #SDG15LifeOnLand #SEAS #SEASANaraniagAgbiag #UCC #WholePersonEducation

As part of SEAS Week 2025, the School of Education, Arts, and Sciences (SEAS) in collaboration with the School of Business Sciences (SBS) launched the โ€œAlay Kalikasan Recycle Hubโ€ on October 14, 2025, promoting the theme โ€œEmpowering Youth for Environmental Innovation and Stewardship.โ€ Students enrolled in the Environmental Science subject actively participated by collecting and selling used clothes and books. Proceeds from the sales will be used to procure seeds and other essential materials needed for the subjectโ€™s activities, reinforcing a hands-on approach to sustainability. Faculty also supported the initiative, with Dr. Ignacio contributing sample clothes for resale. All items sold passed through a quality criterion, ensuring that only usable and valuable items were offered to the community. The Recycle Hub also featured environmental awareness slogans such as โ€œRecycling is Fun! Today, Get it Done!โ€ and โ€œEco-Fiesta, Where Waste Finds Worth.โ€ Running from October 14 to 17, with the possibility of continuing into UCCโ€™s Foundation Anniversary, the project not only teaches environmental responsibility but also integrates practical entrepreneurship and stewardshipโ€”empowering students to innovate while serving the community.
